Should You Join a Coworking Space? My Experience at The Wing
It seems like every time I turn around there are new coworking spaces cropping up! If you’re tired of working in isolation or struggling to concentrate in crowded cafes, a coworking space may be a good fit for you.
Last year I made a huge commitment and investment in my business when I joined TheWing. I was inspired by their well designed feminine spaces and the empowering mantras on their office walls. I joined @TheWing about a year ago and since my membership renewal is quickly approaching, I thought I’d share some of the pros and cons of joining of becoming a member:
What I loved about The Wing:
The Food: Whether you’re in the mood for a matcha latte, avocado toast, or himalayan salt popcorn, The Wing has got you covered. While the prices are in line with most local NYC eateries, the quality is consistent and the healthy selection keeps your fitness goals in tact.
From Brene Brown, to Arianna Huffington, to J Lo, The Wing get’s the best celebrity guests! The waitlist often fills up fast but if you’re a member it’s relatively easy to get into these events and you may even have the option to bring a guest.
Along with amazing guests, The Wing has amazing membership and community events that allow you to connect with other members that have similar interests. I’ve had the opportunity to make some great connections and friends!
As I mentioned, The Wing is an extremely well designed coworking space, which makes it an optimal place to bring potential clients and business partners. They’ll definitely be impressed!
What I didn’t love about The Wing:
Due to The Wing’s popularity, at times it can be incredibly crowded. It starts to feel a bit like those noisy NYC cafes I’m trying to avoid. On more than one occasion, I’ve struggled to find seating and a comfortable place to work for the day.
My biggest gripe with The Wing is their strict “no outside food” policy. While I do enjoy their onsite food options, the inability to bring food from home can dramatically increase the overall cost of a membership at The Wing. On an average day at the space, I can easily spend $15-$20 on food and beverages which quickly adds up!
While many coworking spaces offer flexible membership options, like month-to-month and day passes, all The Wing memberships require an annual commitment. As busy entrepreneurs, we often go through many phases of our business and there may be times when having a physical coworking space doesn’t make sense.
